You don't get a rich, fleshed-out fantasy setting without a lot of work and time, and you can count the number of still-active fantasy settings older and with more material than Warhammer on one hand (Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Conan, maybe one or two others I can't think of). It wasn't really an issue with the lore itself, so the problem could have been mostly solved by focusing on the gaming side of things and fixing the problems with that. Age of Sigmar's lore was just too far and unnecessary, and the complete change from something a that was overall a more gritty and 'normal' Fantasy style to one that's just full of high-fantasy stuff and overelaborate designs and such is also something that's offputting to me. it definitely is now with so much new lore and brand armies under it's belt after 5 years that's kept it skyrocketing in success. It doesn't help that the Fantasy army I was building at the time of the End Times was Empire, who were only kind of brought over to the new game, as "Cities of Sigmar" I think they called them, but who have received, to my knowledge, zero new models since then, instead having their old range whittled down over time with nowt to replace it. I really, truly wanted to like the Lumineth, but the hat designs(yes, basically just the hats. Just so much good stuff. [–]tijuanagolds 1 point2 points3 points 3 months ago (0 children). That and it being made by their premium branch Forge World, their director Tony Cottrell behind it saying it's not made to compete with AoS as a Horus Heresy style side-game makes it so it's not a good idea to call it Wfb. After Vermintide 1 came out, I got into the setting, however, and that's my big criticism of AoS. Even a niche videogame tends to sell better than many wargaming figures or rulesets. That it's a Forge World historical game set centuries before TW:W's timeline(sometime before the first great chaos war 600+ years ago as norse dwarfs are still on the map) shows a bit more disconnect as there's none of the heroes from the game like Franz or Gotrek. 2.
